Springwinter is just around the corner and the mountain resorts are opening. The period from the middle of March until May is considered ”the arctic beach season” and it happens to be the favourite season for most locals. Though before you head out on your adventure there are some things to plan around:
The STF Mountain huts will stay open as usual during 2021 but with minor adjustments in which dates they are open. You also need to pre-book your stay online. In order to be able to welcome you and other guests to the mountain huts safely during this the covid-19 pandemic, STF have made a number of adjustments. Stay up to date on avalanche danger
The website lavinprognoser.se publishes daily assessments of avalanche danger in the Swedish mountains. For Norrbotten, there are assessments for the mountains around Abisko/Riksgränsen and from 26 February also for the mountains around Kebnekaise. The purpose of the forecasts is to provide a basis for safer decisions in the mountains and to avoid unnecessary dangers. New forecasts are published every day at 17.30 until mid-May.
