Taking the bus is an easy and more environmentally friendly way to travel within Kiruna municipality, but it requires a little forward planning. In Kiruna town, local transport runs according to a timetable all year round, with connections between the town centre, residential areas and the bus station. Outside the city, regional transport connects Kiruna city with villages and mountain destinations in the municipality. Many of these buses are seasonal.

City buses

Local transport serves Kiruna city and certain neighbouring areas. Timetables may be limited in the evenings and at weekends, so please plan your journey in advance. The “Stadshustorget” stop in the city centre is close to the Scandic and Elite hotels and only about 200 metres from the tourist center. Tickets can be purchased directly on board the bus.

Shuttle bus to and from the train station

Free shuttle buses run year-round between the train station and the city centre, via the bus station, for all train arrivals and departures. The bus departs approximately 15-30 minutes before the train’s scheduled departure time. If the train is delayed, the bus will still depart according to the scheduled departure time. Airport shuttle to and from Kiruna Airport

Book the airport bus with Kiruna Buss Airport Shuttle which provides a simple and affordable way to travel between your hotel in Kiruna town and the airport. The airport coach is tailored to your flight, even if your flight time changes. The Kiruna Bus Airport Shuttle is available for all incoming and departing flights via Kiruna Airport.

There is also a scheduled airport coach service, running every day connected with some national flights arriving from and departing to Stockholm.

Bus beyond the city

Länstrafiken Norrbotten Buses run between Kiruna and Riksgränsen to the north and Karesuando/Haparanda/Tornio to the south/east. Tickets can be purchased via the app, the website, or by card payment on board the bus. Most routes stop at both the bus station in the old town centre and at Stadshustorget in the new town centre, just a short walk from the tourist centre.

To Nikkaluokta

During the winter season (February-May) and summer season (June-September), Nikkaluoktaexpressen between Kiruna and Nikkaluokta.

To Abisko, Björkliden, Riksgränsen and Narvik

From Kiruna to Riksgränsen, via Abisko and Björkliden, operates Länstrafikens linje 91 during the winter season (February-May) and summer season (June-September). Please note the dates!
Visit Abisko and Kiruna transfers offer transfers between Kiruna, Abisko och Björkliden.

The Arctic Route offers a direct bus service between Kiruna and Narvik. The service runs twice a day in each direction between Kiruna Airport and Narvik railway station. The journey takes around 2.5–3 hours, with stops at Abisko, Björkliden and Riksgränsen, amongst others.
