Taking the train is a climate-smart alternative to flying. If you want to take the train to Kiruna, there are several options. If you are travelling from Stockholm, you can choose to sleep part of the journey on board SJ’s night train.
The night train runs between Stockholm and Narvik and has two departures daily. During the night you travel comfortably through Sweden – choose between a seat, sleeping car or your own sleeping compartment with shower and toilet in first class. On board there is a bistro with simple meals and for those travelling in first class, breakfast is included. Read more about the luggage rules on the night train here.
If you want to travel during the day, it is possible to travel with Norrtåg, which has several departures from Sundsvall in the south to Kiruna in the north.
There are free shuttle buses between the city centre and the train station, in connection with all train arrivals and departures. The bus drives every day, year round. The bus departs approximately 15-30 minutes before the train's scheduled departure time. If the train is delayed, the bus departs according to the scheduled departure time to the railway station. The bus waits for all trains at the railway station regardless of arrival time, if the bus is not there it is on its way.
