Kiruna’s new state-of-the-art swimming facility opened its doors on May 10, 2026. With space for 300 guests, a total of 14 different pools and a beautiful spa area with various warm pools and saunas, there is something for everyone. A dedicated area for family swimming with play areas for both the very youngest and teenagers with a water slide tower. There are two large swimming pools, one for diving and play and one for lap swimming, add to that a beautiful view of Kiruna Church and the City Hall Kristallen. Whether you are traveling with children, friends or on your own, Midnattssolsbadet is an obvious place for your Kiruna visit.
The building itself is worth a visit. Inspired by the slopes of the mountains, the expanses of Lapland and the raw forms of iron ore, the facility rises as a new landmark in the city. The facade combines dark brick with lighter materials at shifting angles, like fish scales in motion. The result is a powerful yet living silhouette that changes with the light, seasons and weather.
Midnattssolsbadet carries with it over a hundred years of swimming tradition. As early as 1913, Kiruna got its first swimming facility, which was unusual for such a young city, but it was an important piece of the puzzle in the vision of a good society. Today the history lives on in the new facility with original details from previous swimming facilities and the now demolished city hall Igloo. Classic signs and artworks have been brought along and now adorn the new modern swimming facility. Among other things, you can view the large mosaic Jungle Interior and the artwork Clouds over Metapontum.
