GABBA

Friday 26 June | 16:00

Gabba, which in Sami means ‘ivory-covered reindeer’, is a Sami band that naturally blends traditional joik with influences from Norwegian folk music, Americana and other ‘world music’. Their music reflects the lifestyle of the Sami people, and each song transports the listener to the vast landscapes of the Arctic region.

Joik master John André Eira from Mazé, Guovdageaidnu, contributes his ancestral heritage and his own compositions to Gabba’s music, creating a sound that is both moving and captivating. The band’s unique and innovative interplay stems from the fact that the musicians live together and play in several bands (Svarte Svaner, Tæladylju).

Listeners and concert-goers can expect an authentic musical experience full of youthful energy.
