Fjällanläggningarna öppnar för sommaren

June 7, 2024

That summer arrives a little later up here in the Arctic is nothing new. Around the middle of June, the summer season starts, when the snow melts away in the mountains and the mosquitoes wake up. We usually say that the hiking season starts in full after midsummer, but as always up here you have to be prepared for rapid weather changes.

Abisko

In scenic surroundings, the hike can begin during the day or in the glow of the midnight sun. Choose a day trip in the easily accessible Abisko National Park or longer hikes along the world-famous Kungsleden. Take the chair lift up to Njullá, also called the flower mountain, enjoy a cup of coffee at the Aurora Sky station and take in the magical view of Sweden’s largest mountain lake, Torneträsk. Enjoy slow food at Brasseriet or visit Restaurant Kungsleden for a magnificent view of Torneträsk.

Or why not experience one of Sweden’s longest cave systems, Kåppasjokkgrottan. If you want a slightly shorter trip, Silverfallet/Rákkasgorži is close by, where you can also enjoy a picnic on the beach or take a refreshing dip in Torneträsk. At Hotell Fjället it is possible to rent mountain bikes, fishing equipment and golf equipment in the Sports Shop. If you want to make a longer trip, you can hike to Sweden’s highest mountain station, Låktatjåkko Mountain Station.
