At the end of November 2026, Snälltåget is running a unique night train journey that takes you north of the Arctic Circle. The train takes you all the way from Malmö via Stockholm to Narvik, with stops in places like Abisko and Björkliden. Travel comfortably north through Sweden and wake up in the mountain world, close to some of the world’s best areas for experiencing the Northern Lights.
The night train departs from Malmö on Monday, November 23, 2026, with a return journey from Narvik on Friday, November 27, 2026.
The route between Malmö and Narvik is a full 2,156 kilometers long – a truly long journey through Sweden, from Skåne to the mountain world north of the Arctic Circle. Once there, you have the opportunity to stay for a few days and combine your visit with accommodation, Northern Lights spotting, and other activities in the mountain environment.
By the end of November, darkness has returned to our northern latitudes, creating excellent conditions for seeing the Northern Lights. At the same time, it is still a quiet period before the Christmas and New Year travel picks up. This allows you to experience the destination at a slightly slower pace.
