The wind lashes against the cabin wall, snow swirls outside, and the day dawns. Inside the cabin, the coffee is being prepared. The pot is filled with water and topped with a heap of coffee grounds. It’s placed on the stove to boil – is it supposed to boil three times? She laces up her boots, pulls on a warm jacket, and takes both her coffee thermos and Hilla, her dog, outside.
Standing by the cabin corner, she watches as the seasons pass. The vibrant hues of autumn grip the mountain birches, snowstorms sweep through in November, and the polar night embraces December. She puts on her touring skis and ventures out into the beautiful white mountains, welcoming the sun when it finally returns in January. After a night of fresh snow, she grabs her snowboard to test the powder. By May, preparations for the next season begin.
With her mother’s help, she sows and cultivates – perhaps the northernmost tomatoes grow tall against her cabin wall. The tomatoes enjoy the same view she does: birch trees and towering peaks. Early in June, the mountains remain snow-capped, but as the snow melts, streams brim with water. The greenery bursts forth alongside the light – the sun never sets. Finally, she can enjoy her homegrown salad, standing once more by the cabin corner with her morning coffee, watching the leaves turn yellow again.
Most mornings, she and Hilla take a walk, feeling the temperature and sensing what the day might bring as she sips her coffee. In nature, no day is the same. For those of us in other parts of the world, we glimpse her life through her lens. Whether sitting in bustling cities far from silent forests or near quieter woods, her images inspire us. Her deep connection with nature stirs something within – curiosity and a longing to step outside.
Linnea Lundkvist is a passionate photographer and content creator. Many of us have followed her daily life through social media, feeling a powerful urge to connect with nature when we see her photos, videos, and stories. Living in harmony with nature means forgoing certain conveniences – like ordering a takeaway pizza or being snowed in for days. Yet, Linnea chooses to live in the mountains. She hopes to inspire her followers to discover, appreciate, and respect the nature around them. “You don’t need to spend a fortune or book a trip to the Alps. Nature is close by, and integrating it into your life, even a little, will make you feel better,” she says.
Now it’s polar night, one of her favorite times of the year. Darkness falls quickly, and the sun won’t rise again until January. Linnea’s freezer is stocked with berries and mushrooms she’s picked, fish she and her partner have caught, and moose meat hunted by her father and sister. She carries on traditions her family has always followed, living in harmony with nature, and she’s deeply attached to her home. After all, what’s a takeaway pizza compared to drinking your morning coffee with the mountains as your view?
My best tip is to always have your camera with you. Many of my favorite shots have been taken on ordinary walks with my dog. If you see something beautiful, photograph it right away – that moment might not come again.
For beginners, I suggest focusing on finding great subjects and experimenting with angles. Start by trying different things rather than stressing over manual camera settings – you can delve into those later. A lot also depends on the light. Shoot when the light is at its best.
