Kiruna Snow Festival – celebrating 40 years!
When the January sun returns to Kiruna after a long, dark and not infrequently cold winter, it is always together with Sweden’s absolute coziest winter event – Kiruna Snow Festival. In the middle of Kiruna’s city center, culture and winter come to life through this incredibly cozy festival.
During the Snow Festival, you as a visitor have the opportunity to participate in a broad program with a strong focus on culture, play, winter and family entertainment. But the highlight of the festival is the Kiruna International Snow Sculpture Competition. A competition that annually attracts artists from all over the world to Kiruna. Throughout the festival week, visitors have the opportunity to follow the artists’ work and see these fantastic works of art take shape.
As the festival has its 40th anniversary, the idea is to, in addition to the snow sculpture competition and snow playland in the middle of the city, also offer fun competitions in typical local disciplines such as dog sled races and kick sled races. Ice installation in collaboration with Icehotel with the theme of Kiruna 125 years will be an extra nice feature in our new city center.
The festival is traditionally organized at the end of January during week 4. With the festival finale on Saturday.
The Snow Festival is the place where snow becomes art – and in 2025 we celebrate 40 years of play, music, winter sports, art, cold and snow.
