Welcome to Jukkasjärvi – where three cultures meet at the heart of the Arctic!

Join a fascinating journey to the 19th century, at a place where the indigenous Sami culture mixes with the Tornedalian, Finnish-speaking, traditions and the unique history of iron ore mining in the North.

At the Local Historical Society, and old farm, you enter a different world. Smell the timber, learn about the nomadic life of the Sami reindeer-herders and follow the stories of the people who lived here, close to nature in a demanding environment.

Ida-Maria Svonni is your guide, sharing her own experience from life in a reindeer herding family, having roots in Tornedalen, and growing up in a mining community.
