The Swedish Transport Administration has assigned SJ the task of operating the Stockholm–Luleå/Narvik night train service from 15 December 2024.
Night train traffic is important for tourism and business in northern Sweden. SJ has solid experience with night train traffic on the route, which SJ last operated during the period June 2008 to December 2020.
– It is both enjoyable and honorable to receive this trust. Many people depend on the night train traffic, and it is a significant and important commitment that we at SJ must now ensure that the Swedish people can travel to and from northern Sweden and Narvik, says SJ CEO Monica Lingegård.
The traffic supply will be the same as before, which means two connections per day in each direction Stockholm-Luleå/Narvik.
– We want to get even more people to choose the night trains and will work to develop the offer and lower the ticket prices. From SJ’s side, we welcome the staff who currently work on these night trains to SJ, where we will offer jobs in Luleå, Umeå and Gävle, says SJ’s Business Manager Jan Kyrk.
The agreement on the Stockholm-Luleå/Narvik night train service is valid for one year, with a possible extension of another year.
