Exhibition: Kiruna Forever

21 July - 10 January

In Kiruna, Sweden’s largest urban transformation is currently underway. The city center is being moved due to mining, buildings listed as cultural monuments are being demolished or transported to new districts and a third of Kiruna’s residents have to relocate. The exhibition Kiruna Forever examines urban transformation through contemporary art by artists from Norrbotten, Sápmi and the rest of the world. Konstmuseet i Norr wants to give Kiruna residents and others an opportunity to reflect with the help of art.

The exhibition Kiruna Forever, which is produced by Konstmuseet i Norr, shows five newly produced pieces that look at Kiruna’s change. Contemporary art has been specially commissioned jointly with ArkDes, whose own exhibition of the same name is running in parallel in Stockholm. Some pieces are displayed in both arenas. In addition to the jointly commissioned works of art, the museums have produced their own material as part of each exhibition.
