Welcome to sign up for free hikes in Abisko on Hiking Day!
On September 14, STF organizes Hiking Day for the sixth year in a row. Hiking Day aims to get more people to experience the joy of hiking and be inspired to see, learn and experience more of the natural and cultural environments in their immediate area, and STF organizes hundreds of activities on this day all over Sweden.

Of course we in Abisko will also hike this day! That’s why we invite you to three of our favorite hikes that you can join us on during the day:

  • We offer a shorter guided tour in the vicinity of the tourist station at 13:30-15:30, where the guide tells about Abisko’s unique history, the railway, the war years and the formation of the tourist station. We walk about 3 km before the tour ends with coffee and an open fire at Torneträsk’s beach.
  • A longer hike with a guide leads us up towards the old Sámi sacrificial site of Paddus (Báddosdievvá), and offers a breathtaking view of Abisko, the Torne marshes and the mountains that are popularly known as the Abisko Alps. The tour departs from STF Abisko Turiststation at 10.00, back at approx. 15.30 and we walk approx. 12 km. Bring lunch!
  • If you are keen to discover the area on your own, you can go on our self-guided hike to the top of the home mountain Nuolja, where a symbolic little gadget will be hidden. Find it and get free coffee at the Aurora Sky Station on the way down! Open all day 09:30-16:00.

The activities during Hiking Day are of course free of charge and open to everyone, not just our resident guests. Registration takes place to abisko.sportchef@stfturist.se, let us know which tour you wish to join and how many of you there are. Drop in subject to space. We look forward to a hiking-filled day with you, welcome!
