KIRUNA - in Swedish Lapland

Camp Ripan

Aurora Sky Station

0

The tour will start with one hour car drive, from Camp Ripan to Abisko. There we will take the chair lift up into the darkness and silence to the Aurora Sky Station – hopefully with the Aurora Borealis dancing in the sky above. There is minimal artificial light from streetlights, etc.

Abisko is situated at the latitude of 68.2 North, that is to say, 250km north of the Arctic Circle and has the most cloud-free sky in Sweden. The Aurora Sky Station has an extensive exhibition about Aurora Borealis, created by IRF, the Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna. Here you will learn more about the phenomenon before going out on the viewing deck to begin your night sky gazing.

You will be served dinner at The Aurora Sky Station before it is time to ride back down. Another alternative is to eat dinner or a sandwich, in the restaurant, at Abisko tourist station.
